In the Western Cape, the fatal crash occurred as a result of the driver heading in the wrong direction while in Limpopo, an SUVs dangerous attempt at overtaking, caused the collision.

The most recent accident occurred early on Sunday morning, on the N2 outbound after the Baden Powell Drive bridge in Cape Town.

Three people lost their lives while two were seriously injured in the head-on collision.

Maxine Bezuidenhout, the City of Cape Town traffic spokesperson, confirmed that one of the vehicles had driven in the incorrect direction at approximately 4am.
