Seven Killed In Separate Eastern Cape Crashes

Seven people have died in two separate crashes in the Eastern Cape on Friday night.

Three people died on the scene, while another two succumbed to their injuries in hospital in a collision involving two cars on the R409 between Ndabakazi and Ngqamakhwe.

In the second crash, two people died on the N2 near Fort Jackson, just outside Mdantsane, when the car they were travelling in overturned.

Eastern Cape Department of Transport Spokesperson, Unathi Binqose says cases of culpable homicide have been opened for each of the two crashes.

"In a very unfortunate turn of events, sadly two more people have succumbed to their injuries in hospital from the accident that occurred on the R409 between Ndabakazi and Ngqamakhwe. This now takes the toll from three to five and seven overall if you add the deaths of the accident that happened overnight near Fort Jackson just outside Mdantsane," explains Binqose.
