Sentencing Resumes For Sisters In Itireleng Shack Fire Case
Sentencing proceedings for two sisters accused of leaving their children and grandchildren locked in a shack that caught fire at Itireleng informal settlement near Laudium, west of Pretoria, are set to resume at the Atteridgeville Magistrates Court.
Lindiwe Machaka, 39, and Zanele Machaka, 37, allegedly went partying until the early hours of the morning when a fire broke out, killing five children. According to the National Prosecuting Authority NPA, three of the children were burned beyond recognition.
The NPA stated that Lindiwe was the grandmother of two of the children, while Zanele was the mother of the other three.
Both sisters have been charged with five counts of culpable homicide.
