Scopa Commends Sassa And Saps Following Arrest Of Three Officials

The Standing Committee on Public Accounts SCOPA chairperson Songezo Zibi has commended both the South African Social Security Agency SASSA and the police following the arrest of three SASSA officials.
They were arrested at the Social Security Agency offices in Johannesburg. They are allegedly linked to more than R260 million stolen from beneficiaries through ghost SASSA cards.
Police are still searching for four others.
Zibi hopes this will send a strong message to those stealing from the poor and defrauding the state.
We see many of these instances where people take advantage of the transfers that South African taxpayers provide to the people who are less fortunate. They take advantage of the system in order to steal. To advantage themselves, relatives, and their friends. And I hope justice takes its course as quickly as possible. And that those still on the run will soon be arrested and taken to court, adds Zibi.
