school nutrition programme cleared in katlehong childrens deaths

Acting Gauteng Premier Kedibone Diale-Tlabela says tests by health officials on the food provided through the school nutrition program at Sonqoba Primary have cleared the department from any wrongdoing.

Diale-Tlabela was speaking during her visit to the family of two pupils from Sonqoba Primary School, who died after allegedly consuming snacks from a local spaza shop and food supplied by the school.

The Acting Premier says investigations are now also focused on the spaza shop involved.

The Department of Health did the investigations in our school nutrition and the results were negative, that it is not it. It is alleged that kids went to different spaza shops to get different things. So, we are also to investigate to make sure we deal with this challenge.

A family of two pupils say they are still in shock at how their nine and six-year-old children died.
