Trade union SATAWU says it is happy that the case of former head engineer of PRASA Daniel Mthimkhulu has concluded.

The Specialised Commercial Crimes Court handed Mthimkhulu a 15-year jail term for fraud.

He was found guilty of faking his engineering qualifications, causing prejudice to PRASA in that his annual salary was hiked from R1.6 million to R2.8 million.

SATAWU spokesperson, Amanda Tshemese says PRASA needs to do proper background checks before hiring.

If the entity is serious about fighting corruption as they claim, they need to start doing proper background check. Theres thousand of qualified, legitimate and deserving engineers in this country that are unemployed yet fraudsters are stealing millions of rands because the entity fails to do what needs to be done.
