National Police Commissioner General Fannie Masemola says police have implemented an action plan to crack down on extortion syndicates which are operating across the country.
In these past two weeks, 14 extortionists were shot and killed during confrontations with police in various provinces.
General Masemola was speaking during a media briefing at a roadblock in Houghton, Johannesburg, this morning, where he provided an update on the South African Police Services (SAPS) countrywide operations.
The SAPS is working hard to bring an end to the scourge of extortion and related crimes. We do have an action plan in terms of dealing with extortion in the various provinces and I am sure you have seen quite a number of take downs in those provinces. We will continue this fight and take the fight to criminals and we think we are on the right track, adds Masemola.
