Saps Meets Afriforum Over 'white Genocide' Claims In South Africa

The South African Police Service SAPS has met civil society group AfriForum to discuss claims of white genocide in South Africa.
This is according to Minister in the Presidency Khumbudzo Ntshavheni, who briefed the media on Thursday 27 March on the outcomes of a cabinet meeting held on Wednesday.
SAPS and AfriForum meeting on white genocideNtshavheni said the cabinet had expressed concern about the continuing misinformation campaign by AfriForum, the Solidarity Movement and their allies.
Law enforcement agencies are investigating violations of South African law. To prevent further misinformation, SAPS met with AfriForum to clarify allegations of white genocide with reference to farm murders, the minister said.
At the meeting, AfriForum conceded that the crime statistics as released by the Minister of Police are accurate, including all farm murders. It is common knowledge that some of the farm murders are committed by people known to the farmers, including their own family members.
The cabinet also dismissed claims that 72,000 white farmers have signed up to resettle in the United States US in response to President Donald Trumps recent offer of refugee status.
According to data from AgriSA, Statistics South Africa and the Department of Agriculture, South Africa only has just over 41,000 commercial farmers and therefore there cannot be 72,000 commercial farmers leaving South Africa, Ntshavheni said.
AfriForum has previously denied pushing a white genocide narrative and won a Press Ombudsman ruling last year against Sunday World in this regard.
The latest crime statistics show that contrary to the groups claims of a large number of farm murders, 12 such crimes took place in the last quarter of 2024.
Of these, five of the victims were farm dwellers, four were employees, one was a security guard, one was a farmer, and one was classified as unspecified.
