Samwu Calls For Tough Action On Unpaid Pension Contributions
The South African Municipal Workers Union SAMWU says the Pension Funds Adjudicator complaint process is very tedious for municipal workers whose pension fund contributions are not paid over by municipalities.
According to SAMWU general secretary Dumisane Magagula, individual employees will have to lodge a complaint with the adjudicator about the Municipalities failure to pay their pension fund contributions.
This results in delays in holding the municipalities accountable.
Magagula says they are hopeful that a High Court will order defaulting municipal managers to be fined millions per case.
We have already started to register and lodge all the complaints for every individual municipal employee that brought their issue to us where municipalities have failed to pay over and its a process that takes quite some time to get to a decision and a determination. That determination will end up with a High Court order, that will order every municipal manager that fails to pay over, to be fined R10 million for each and every individual case, where they have not paid over pension funds.
