Safety Alert: Airbag Recalls For Chevrolet, Saab, And Cadillac Models

safety alert airbag recalls for chevrolet saab and cadillac models

The National Consumer Commission NCC has issued a critical update regarding the recall of several vehicle models including Chevrolet Cruze, Aveo, Saab, Cadillac, and Orlando, following alarming reports from Stellantis South Africa Pty Ltd.

The recall comes as a precautionary measure prompted by a defect in the Takata airbag inflator that poses potential risks to driver and passenger safety, Cape town Etc reports.

Stellantis revealed that the defect affects the driver's airbag inflator which, due to an alteration over time, may lead to aggressive combustion during airbag deployment.

This concerning malfunction raises serious safety alarms. In the event of airbag rupture, metal fragments could be propelled through the airbag cushion material, significantly increasing the risk of injury or even death for vehicle occupants. The vehicles involved in this recall were made available for sale between 2006 and 2008.

In addition to the earlier models, Stellantis has announced further recalls for the Chevrolet Cruze, Aveo, and Orlando vehicles manufactured between 2010 and 2013, alongside Cadillac and Chevrolet-Saab models distributed from 2014 to 2018.
