Safa Administrators Negligence Led To Mokoenas Saga: Mumble
Former South African Football Association SAFA Chief Executive Officer, Dennis Mumble, says negligence by SAFA administrators has led to the Teboho Mokoena saga and a cloud of uncertainty hanging over Bafana Bafana.
Mokoena was not eligible to play for Bafanas in last Fridays 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Lesotho, and the team may now be docked three points for his wrongful selection for the Polokwane encounter.
Mumble produced a blueprint for SAFA on good administration, following the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations qualification debacle when Bafana misinterpreted the rules and failed to qualify for the biennial tournament.
He says that although the team manager is responsible for staying abreast of player disciplinary records. SAFAs Head of Delegation is also to blame for allowing an ineligible player to feature for the national team.
Following the Dance of Shame saga at the Mbombela Stadium caused by the misinterpretation of CAF rules, SAFA decided to produce a blueprint to avoid international embarrassment in the future.
