Sadc Takes Resolution To Withdraw Troops From The Drc

The Southern African Development Community SADC Heads of State and Government meeting taking place virtually has just been concluded with a resolution that the peacekeeping mission troops in the Democratic Republic of Congo DRC must be withdrawn .

The extraordinary meeting was convened to discuss security situation in the eastern DRC .

Speaking to the SABC after the meeting, International Relations Minister Ronald Lamola, has described the meeting as fruitful.

"The summit has taken a groundbreaking resolution with regards to humanitarian access, the reopening of the Goma airport, engaging with the non-state actors including a phased withdrawal of SAMIDRC. But not only that, all the forces that are not invited. Non-invited parties in that conflict must also withdraw and be engage in the process of a ceasefire. The sovereignty of the Democratic Republic of Congo should continue to be respected," says Lamola.
