Sadc Endorses Samuel Maimbo For Afdb Presidency

The Southern African Development Community SADC has announced Dr. Samuel Maimbo as its candidate for the presidency of the African Development Bank AfDB.

Elections for the position are scheduled for May 2025, with Dr. Maimbo aiming to succeed Dr. Adesina Akinwumi.

Maimbo, currently a vice president at the World Bank, has a strong background in project financing, resource mobilisation and financial inclusion, according to SADC.

He holds a doctorate and an MBA, having begun his career at PricewaterhouseCoopers and within Zambia's public administration, followed by 23 years at the World Bank.

SADC emphasized the need for innovative leadership at the AfDB, citing that 67 of global poverty is concentrated in Sub-Saharan Africa.
