Pilots at South African Airways SAA are reportedly planning to go on strike tomorrow due to a wage dispute.
The airline stated that the South African Airways Pilots Association initially requested a 30 wage increase when negotiations began in May. However, the Association has since lowered its demand to 15.7.
SAA has offered an 8.4 wage increase, which it claims aligns with the raise given to other SAA staff members in June 2024.
Vimla Maistry, Lead at SAA Group Corporate Affairs, confirmed that after prolonged negotiations, the airline received notification from the SAA Pilots Association regarding the potential strike. SAA management is committed to finding a fair resolution and has implemented contingency measures to minimize disruptions to operations, especially during the busy December season, to ensure minimal impact on customers.
