Lucas Masterpieces Moripe, a South African football icon, has passed away at his home in Atteridgeville in Pretoria. Hed been ill for some time.
A dazzling midfielder, Moripe started his professional career with Pretoria Callies in 1971.
In 1973, he was named the National Professional Soccer Leagues Player of the Year and Sportsman of the Year.
Moripe represented an NPSL Invitation Eleven against a selected British All-Stars Eleven and had a stint with Caroline Hill Football Club in Hong Kong.
He joined Orlando Pirates in the twilight of his career in 1981, but a persistent knee injury ended his time with the Buccaneers.
