Sa Indoor Hockey Skipper Calls On Government For More Support

South African indoor hockey mens skipper Mustapha Cassiem has pleaded with government for more support in the future.

Cassiem led the team to bronze at the Indoor Hockey World Cup in Croatia earlier this month, which was the first time an African team had ever medalled at the event.

The 22-year-old was also named player of the tournament for his exploits.

Cassiem called on SA minister of Sport and Recreation Gayton McKenize to help invest in the sport.

Call for funding

'We want the government and people to invest in hockey. Weve sacrificed a lot to grow the sport, and we need funding to compete at the highest level, maybe even one day win an Olympic medal, Cassiem told Sportsboom.co.za in an exclusive interview.
