Sa Engages Us On Energy Security Cooperation: Ramokgopa

Minister of Electricity and Energy Dr Kgosientsho Ramokgopa says South Africa is continuing to engage with the United States US in efforts to work towards a common purpose on energy security .

He was hosting a session on the countrys G20 Energy Transition Work Group in Johannesburg.

Ramokgopa says South Africa plans to use G20 to position the country as a key knowledge hub in areas of clean energy, just transition and sustainable development in Africa.

The USs new administration has pulled out of the Paris Agreement, a move Ramokgopa says is likely to hamper momentum towards the Just Energy Transition .

"There is a new administration in the US, theyve got their own interpretation in relation to what could be considered as just whether some of them underpins elements of this transition. Im confident that we should be in a position to find each other. We really invest a lot of time in ensuring that theres a common understanding between the Troika so that you are able to drive the conversations together. The first day of this technical workstream is on Thursday and Friday, and all I know is that the US has confirmed it will be represented at the level of a DG. So that for us is a sign that they invested in this conversation and in taking it forward."
