sa citizens warned against registering spaza shops for foreigners

Gauteng Economic Development MEC Lebogang Maile has issued a stern warning to South African citizens against registering spaza shops on behalf of foreign nationals.

He says the public needs to be educated on the dangers of doing so.

Maile says foreign nationals will be required to provide valid documentation from the Department of Home Affairs giving them authorisation to operate a business in South Africa.

And the eligibility of a business visa is that foreign nationals must invest a prescribed amount of about R5 million into an existing business or provide a business plan with evidence of R5 million capital contribution and then only can foreign nationals establish a business which is of national interest to South Africa.

Maile adds This re-registration is part of the steps to ensure that we make sure and thats why when people have been found to have transgressed, the law will take its course, but you cant prevent people from doing wrong things if they are mischievous thats why we must continuously educate them.
