Eastern Cape Premier Oscar Mabuyane has acknowledged that, 31 years into democracy, much more still needs to be done by his administration to invest in rural communities.

The province marked Freedom Day by celebrating the centenary of ANC struggle stalwart Alfred Nzos birth in Matatiele. The event included a 5 km and 10 km Freedom Day Race, as well as a police parade.

There are a lot of challenges, the gaps, the haves and have-nots are there, as it is under development. That is why we are saying, in the Eastern Cape, do not just talk service delivery talk development. Because you need a huge infrastructure rollout. Social, schools, hospitals, and roads. As an enabler to cartelize the economic growth. So, it is going to be important. Surely if you see that. We are working hard on education we are bridging that gap. A lot of people are now graduating a lot of people are having matric. Since 1994, it shows very well the kind of direction that we are taking, Mabuyane elaborates.
