The Road Traffic Inspectorate (RTI) says assistance is being provided to motorists stranded along the N3 Harrismith in the Free State due to heavy snowfall .
The N3 between Harrismith and Tugela Toll as well as R617 between Kokstad and Underberg in KwaZulu-Natal have been closed due to severe weather conditions.
The Department of Co-operative Governance in the province says the N2 Ingeli and N3 near Mooi River are being closely monitored.
RTI spokesperson Sindi Msimang says, The Department of Transport and the RTI would like to advise the road users about the condition of the road in the province due to the bad weather as we are facing these weather conditions. So part of the province are experiencing a heavy rainfall, some are experiencing heavy snowfall, some are experiencing icy conditions . We therefore advise road users to postpone their trips planned this weekend.
