Roads Reopen After Snowfall

The roads affected by the snowstorm over the weekend, including the N3 Toll Route, have now been reopened to traffic, according to the Government Communication and Information System GCIS, reporting on Sunday night, September 22.

These include key routes in Gauteng, Free State, Mpumalanga, KwaZulu-Natal, and the Eastern Cape.

Heavy snowfall and icy conditions left vehicles trapped on Van Reenens Pass on the N3 highway over the weekend, in sub-zero temperatures.

The extensive backlog of traffic between KwaZulu-Natal and the Free State has been cleared. Motorists are advised to resume their travels on Monday, September 23, said the GCIS.

Although the roads are cleared, motorists are urged to drive cautiously as some roads remain slippery, and weather conditions limit visibility.
