Riversdale Steps Towards Energy Independence With Renewable Project
On Friday, 24 September 2025, Premier Alan Winde and key officials gathered for the groundbreaking ceremony of a multi-million-rand renewable energy project in Riversdale , a town in the southern Cape, Cape town Etc reports.
The initiative promises to bring reliable, affordable and renewable energy to the growing hub of economic activity, benefiting both residents and local businesses.
Premier Winde was joined by Tertuis Simmers, minister of Infrastructure, Isaac Sileku, minister of Mobility, and Deputy Minister of Electricity and Energy Samantha Graham-Mare, alongside Grant Riddles, executive mayor of Hessequa Municipality, to mark the start of this ambitious energy project.
While I join millions of Western Cape residents in welcoming the over 300-day respite from load shedding, we must not allow ourselves to be lulled into a false sense of energy security, Premier Winde remarked.
Now more than ever, we must invest in alternative energy solutions, making power more affordable and environmentally friendly.
