Ria Ledwaba Suffers Yet Another Bruising Court Loss Against Safa

Former South African Football Federation SAFA Vice-President Ria Ledwaba has lost her latest bid to overturn the outcome of the Federations 2022 elections.
In an order handed down earlier this week, the Supreme Court of Appeal SCA dismissed her and Solly Mohlabengs application for leave to appeal a Pretoria high court ruling that dismissed their electoral challenge.
Ria Ledwaba loses SCA appeal bid against SAFAThe SCA ruled that the appeal bid had no reasonable prospects of success and that there were no compelling reasons in law why it should be heard. It therefore dismissed it with costs.
In a statement on Saturday 29 March, SAFA welcomed the ruling , urging Ledwaba and Mohlabeng to accept and respect the electorate's voting choices.
This marks the sixth time in just two years that Ledwaba and Mohlabeng fail in their legal attempts to disrupt SAFA . Their consecutive court defeats expose her ongoing attempts to distract SAFA from its commitment to develop football in the country and beyond, it said.
Despite these attempts, SAFA remains committed to its mission to use football as an instrument to promote social cohesion and to unite the country. Bafana Bafana's impressive performance in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers is testament to SAFA's continued commitment to developing football in the country.
Ledwaba and Mohlabeng, who was SAFA Tshwane president at the time, challenged Danny Jordaan for the position of SAFA President at the 2022 elections but lost.
They launched a bid to overturn the election results at the Pretoria high court but lost in February 2024, prompting them to file an application for leave to appeal which was also dismissed in December 2024.
Still aggrieved, they approached the SCA in January 2025 but have now lost again. The two had not yet reacted to the SCA ruling at the time of publishing.
