Residents Near Juju Valley In Limpopo Build Shacks On Unoccupied Land
Residents of an area near Juju Valley, outside Polokwane in Limpopo, have built sharks on land that is not occupied along Matlala Road. The land invasion comes in the wake of President Cyril Ramaphosas signing of the Expropriation Bill into law.
The residents claim that the new legislation allows them to invade land that is not occupied.
The Polokwane Municipality released a statement earlier in the week warning people against invading land.
As community leaders, we spoke to our people, so we took the land without compensation. As you can see, people grab the land. It is very important to take the land because people need places to stay in other ways. We are also building the economy of South Africa because many years without this land being used. It doesnt belong to anyone we grab the land as we see as black people we are suffering people are staying at home with their kids, says the residents leader, Kgaugelo Chuene.
