Rescue Operations At Sabie Disused Mine To Resume Early Friday
The rescue operation in the South Shaft of the disused mine at Sabie in Mpumalanga has been suspended until Friday morning with 41 illegal miners having been brought to the surface so far.
Three bodies were retrieved on Wednesday . Over a hundred illegal miners were reported to be underground.
The shaft is about 180 meters deep. The illegal miners have been taken to the police holding cells, as verification processes and profiling are conducted by Home Affairs.
Provincial Police spokesperson, Donald Mdluli, A total number of 33 have been brought to the surface only today bringing the number to a total number of 41 on top of the eight alleged illegal miners that were brought to the surface yesterday. Due to bad light and other things, we have halted the operations which will resume early tomorrow because it would be like today. Tomorrow we are expecting to have at least this operation starting much earlier so that we can bring a lot of them to the surface.
