remo stars make history win first nigerian championship title

Remo Stars made history on Sunday, winning their first-ever Nigeria Professional Football League NPFL title with a dramatic 1-0 victory over Niger Tornadoes.

The Sky Blue Stars secured the championship with a late goal from Adebayo Olamilekan, marking a significant milestone for the club.

The win, which came on the 59th birthday of their owner, Kunle Soname, saw Remo Stars achieve an unassailable 68 points from 35 matches, 10 points clear of second-place Rivers United with three games remaining. This triumph is particularly poignant for the club, as they had finished runners-up in the past two seasons.

Founded 15 years ago as FC Dender in Lagos and later rebranded as Remo Stars in Ogun State in 2011, the club's victory sees them become the first privately owned team since Udoji United in 1996 to win the NPFL title.

The club will now represent Nigeria in next years CAF Champions League, with the runners-up and third-place teams also earning spots in continental competitions.
