Referendum Would Be Needed To Allow Mnangagwa To Extend Term: Coltart

A referendum would be needed to allow Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa to extend his term of office, according to human rights lawyer and activist, Doug Coltart.

This comes after a ZANU-PF parliamentarian confirmed that the ruling party and a faction of the opposition Citizens Coalition for Change planned to amend the Zimbabwe Constitution to extend the Presidents term of office.

The proponents of the draft motion also claim that Mnangagwa deserves an extension of his term beyond 2028 when his two terms expire.
