Ramaphosa's Message To Afriforum: 'stop Running To Other Countries'

President Cyril Ramaphosa has urged the Solidarity Movement, which includes minority rights group AfriForum and trade union Solidarity, to stop running to other countries to resolve internal issues.

A delegation from the three organisations met representatives of US President Donald Trump s administration at the White House in Washington earlier this week.

They included Solidarity Movement chairperson Flip Buys, AfriForum CEO Kallie Kriel, Solidarity CEO Dr Dirk Hermann and Solidarity Movements Head of International Liaison Jaco Kleynhans.

They called on the Trump administration to intensify pressure on African National Congress ANC leaders to end discrimination against Afrikaners.

Ramaphosa reacts to AfriForum visit to US

We should stop running to other countries. We should discuss our own problems here and find solutions, Ramaphosa told journalists after addressing the Basic Education Sector Lekgotla on Thursday 27 February.

That, in many ways, confirms our own sovereignty and standing as a free and independent nation. A nation that can stand proud amongst many other nations and be able to say, we can solve our own problems. We may differ here, but we will find solutions and we have the wherewithal to do that.

The President noted calls that something needs to be done to them but said he preferred sending a clear message to them.

I would say, we stay here, we solve our problems here and we embrace one another and build a nation. We would never be able to build a nation by going to complain to other nations in the world, he said.

Already, what they are doing has spawned divisions in our nation. And that is not a nation-building process, of running around the world to try and have your problems solved. You are just sowing divisions.

Meanwhile, the Economic Freedom Fighters has taken a more hardline stance, describing Solidarity and AfriForums acts as treasonous.
