Ramaphosa Expected To Use Sona To Clarify Sas Diplomatic Stance

President Cyril Ramaphosa will have to provide a resoundingly clear message about South Africas position on diplomatic relations with other nations when he delivers the State of the Nation Address SONA.

Thats the view of political analyst Nkosikhulule Nyembezi, who weighs in on recent utterances made by the President of Rwanda Paul Kagame and US President Donald Trump about South Africa .

The President will deliver his State of the Nation Address to a joint sitting of Parliament on Thursday evening. It will be the first time he delivers the SONA as the head of the Government of National Unity GNU, which came into power following the results of the May elections last year.

According to Nyembezi, foreign policy and trade issues need to be communicated effectively by the President to avoid unnecessary misinterpretations.

" There is so much to hope for this time around, including that our alliances grow stronger as we strengthen our economic diplomacy within our largest trading partners and potential trading partners as part of the expanding BRICS Forum and as the host of the historic 2025 G20 Summit, that will prioritise the implementation of the African continental free trade area to increase our export to the African continent as part of our foreign policy approach which promotes peace, security, democracy and development across Africa."
