Ramaphosa Affirms Jonas Appointment As Us Special Envoy

ramaphosa affirms jonas appointment as us special envoy

President Cyril Ramaphosa will not be replacing veteran Mcebisi Jonas as Special Envoy to the US.

This after the former Deputy Minister of Finance, labelled American President Donald Trump as a racist and homophobe in 2020 after Joe Biden won the American Presidential race.

Presidential spokesperson Vincent Magwenya says comments made by Jonas about Trump were made in his personal capacity and that political issues such as the tariff situation should be kept separate from personal opinions.

We believe President Trump and members of his administration will have an appreciation that in politics things do get said but doesnt mean people are beholden to those positions. Equally unkind remarks have been said about the African continent by President Trump and there is no African leader who holds those comments against him. There is a sense that everyone wants to move forward positively in terms of the relationship with the United States.
