The ongoing public spats between the Economic Freedom Fighters EFF and the uMkhonto weSizwe MK Party could potentially weaken the Progressive Caucus in Parliament, according to some observers.

This tension escalated following EFF leader Julius Malema's recent outburst against MK Party leader Jacob Zuma. Relations between the two parties soured after several key figures from the EFF, including Floyd Shivambu the former deputy president and co-founder of the EFF, left to join the MK Party. Malema has since referred to Zuma's MK Party as the "biggest enemy."

Political analyst Dr. Levy Ndou warns that these public clashes could exacerbate the already tense relations between the two left-wing parties, potentially undermining their collective influence in Parliament. This could also weaken their position in relation to the Government of National Unity GNU pact, which aims to bring together different political forces in South Africa.

The rivalry between these two factions within the left-wing bloc raises concerns about unity and the ability to present a strong, unified opposition in Parliament.
