Psl Moves To Terminate Royal Am's Membership: Report

The Premier Soccer Leagues PSL executive committee has recommended the termination of Royal AMs membership, SABC Sport reported on Wednesday 2 April.
The troubled club has not featured in all competitions since their 3-1 defeat to TS Galaxy in late December last year. In January, the PSL suspended all their matches until further notice.
PSL takes big decision on Royal AMAccording to SABC Sport , the PSLs executive committee is thought to have met on Wednesday and adopted the recommendation.
It will now reportedly convene a meeting of the Board of Governors, which includes the rest of PSL clubs, to approve the decision. If approved, the top-flight league will conclude the 2024/2025 season with 15 teams instead of the usual 16.
Reports that the PSL was considering expelling Royal AM first emerged in February. However, the committee appears to have held off on a firm decision - until now.
Royal AM has played 11 matches only so far this season compared to 19 to 24 that other clubs have played, leaving it at the bottom of the PSL log . With just a few weeks left in the season, it was becoming increasingly unlikely that it would catch up if the PSL lifted its suspension.
The club has been under a curatorship appointed by the South African Revenue Service SARS, which is seeking to recoup an alleged R40 million tax debt from previous owner, Shauwn MaMkhize Mkhize, and others.
SARS won the right to sell AM via auction. Last week, an agreement to sell the club to Global Investments Pty Ltd, a company linked to Durban businessman Chockalingam Roy Moodley , fell through.
In a statement, AM curator Jaco Venter said the company failed to make the required payment within the stipulated period. It is unclear at this stage how the looming expulsion would affect the clubs value, as it remains on the market.
