Psl Confirms Date And Venue For 'soweto Derby' Nedbank Cup Final - It Won't Be In Soweto

The Premier Soccer League PSL has confirmed that the 2025 Nedbank Cup final will be played on Saturday, 10 May at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal.
The two finalists, Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates, have set up a mouthwatering Soweto derby that, curiously, will not take place in Soweto as is the tradition.
Cup finals are often once-off games as opposed to two-leg matchups that give each team a home advantage.
This is why the PSL has to pick a neutral venue away from the Buccaneers Orlando Stadium or Amakhosis FNB Stadium, both of which are located in Soweto, Johannesburg.
Moses Mabhida stadium to host Nedbank Cup finalSave the date. On Saturday, 10 May, the Moses Mabhida Stadium will be the venue for the Nedbank Cup final between Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates, the PSL announced on X on Sunday evening 13 April.
Pirates advanced after beating Marumo Gallants 1-0 in a tight affair. Kaizer Chiefs scripted an upset with a 2-1 win over Mamelodi Sundowns.
This will be the Bucs third successive final where they will look to win it three times in a row. They edged out Sekhukhune United 2-1 to claim the trophy in 2023 before beating Mamelodi Sundowns by the same margin in last years final.
They will aim to become the first team to win the Cup three times in a row since Nedbank became sponsors in 2008.
However, they won the competition three times in a row - between 1973 and 1975 - when it was still known as FA Cup. Incidentally, 2025 is exactly 50 years since 1975, presenting a chance for the Bucs to recreate history.
Talking of history, Chiefs and Pirates are two of only three clubs to win the FA Cup back-to-back, with the third being SuperSport United.
