President Cyril Ramaphosa says theres an urgent need to reform the United Nations Security Council, which he said remained largely unchanged in the 78 years since its formation.

Ramaphosa is answering questions in the National Assembly in Cape Town.

He has reiterated Africas demand for permanent representation in the UN Security Council, emphasising that its unacceptable for the continent, home to 1.3 billion people, to remain unrepresented.

Ramaphosa says that without veto power, African countries will always be treated as second-class citizens. He adds that the UN Security Council has been unable to resolve several conflicts around the world.
