Power Supply Disrupted At Groblers Bridge Border Post In Limpopo
The Border Management Authority, BMA, says power supply has been disrupted at the Groblers Bridge Border Post outside Lephalale, Limpopo due to flooding.
Lephalale Mayor Aaron Mokgehle earlier told SABC News that persistent rainfall had led to the disruption of several services in the area, including the temporary closure of the port of entry.
"The increased water level has reached a point where it significantly compromises the safe and efficient functioning of the port. As a precautionary measure, all vehicles within the operational space of the port have been cleared. Following consultations with our Botswana counterparts and thorough deliberations with the port management committee, it has been that a temporary suspension is necessary. This decision reflects our unwavering commitment to the well-being of our personnel, travelers, and all stakeholders," says BMA Deputy Assistant Commissioner Mmemme Mogotsi.
Mogotsi says alternative measures have been put in place to ensure that traveling continues between South Africa and Botswana.
"We assure the public that the situation is being closely monitored on an hourly basis, for diversion of movement the Stockport Port of Entry and Platjan Port of Entry can be used as alternatives by travellers and small vehicles as these are non-commercial ports. For cargo movement, travellers and truck operators are advised to use Skilpadshek Border Post, Kopfontein Port of Entry, as an alternative port of entry."
