Parliaments Portfolio Committee on Police is seeking lifestyle and skills audits from senior management of the South African Police Service SAPS.
This they say is to ensure a fit for purpose service that is responsive to current and future needs of the SAPS.
The Committee has also emphasised the need to review the current discipline management system within the SAPS.
Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee Ian Cameron says, We know that over the years, people have crept in and slipped through the cracks, that arent necessarily skilled to be in specific, especially the most specialised positions that might have been appointed due to political affiliation. And unfortunately have been linked to all of the first two and possible allegations of corruption or worse, not just allegations.
Cameron adds, So, it obviously leaves a whole lot of loopholes for other criminal activity, to either go ahead unabated on the outside and it obviously opens up the door for criminal elements inside the South African Police Service to be able to flourish and this unfortunately includes both the Hawks and SAPS.
