The Buffalo City Metro in the Eastern Cape has temporary closed its popular Eastern Beach in East London. The decision is due to a safety concern as parts of the beach have been washed away exposing rocks.
This has also led to parts of the road and pavement being eroded and there are fears that it may further collapse, if there are cars parking driving on the road.
Metro spokesperson Samkelo Ngwenya has urged beachgoers to abide to the decision.
The safety and security cluster including teams from beaches, amenities, engineering, disaster and traffic conducted an onsite inspection this week to determine the extent of the damage. The Metro is in the process of undertaking an impact assessment study to find a solution and determine the impact the situation will have on humans including human health, on animals, plants, biodiversity, soil, water, ambient air, the climate, the landscape and cultural goods.
