The Gauteng Health Department says the water supply problems in and around Hammanskraal in Pretoria are hampering the provision of healthcare services at Jubilee Hospital.
It says the problems have led to the deferring of elective surgeries.
Unions say they have been urging hospital management to install a borehole since 2016.
The departments spokesperson Motalatale Modiba says they tried to introduce borehole drilling to bump up the emergency water supply.
However, this was not sufficient because there was not enough yield to make this option viable. It must be remembered that, for health facilities to function optimally, we require constant supply of water and energy given the environment we operate in.
