Police Seize Abalone From Suspected Poachers At Cape Point

Three suspected poachers have been arrested at Cape Point following the seizure of more than a thousand abalone during a joint operation by Table Mountain National Park TMNP patrol teams.

SANParks says teams, including the SANParks Environmental Crime Investigation unit, alerted TMNPs Sea, Air, and Mountain SEAM team and their K-9 unit.

They acted on a tip-off on Thursday regarding suspicious activity in the Cape of Good Hope section of the park.

This led to the discovery of the poachers camp. SANParks says two vehicles were also confiscated.

Police apprehended the suspects and have opened a case of poaching. Abalone poaching remains a major issue in the area, driven by criminal syndicates.
