police plead for responsible social media use in missing cops case

The South African Police Service SAPS has cautioned members of the public to refrain from using social media platforms to spread false information about the three missing police constables .

The officers disappeared on Wednesday while travelling to Limpopo for their deployment.

Police have issued a reward of R350 000 to anyone who has information that will lead to a breakthrough in their disappearance.

Police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe says spreading lies on social media is insensitive and misleading.

Social media is a very powerful tool that we utilize as the SAPS. To share information, to look for suspects and so on. It has in the past assisted us when we were looking for dangerous and cold criminals. So, let us use it responsibly. This is not the time to paddle fake information and lies. There are families that are heartbroken. Therere us who have to deal with searching for our own. It cannot be easy for us. These are our colleagues.
