Police Open Inquest After Body Found In Hartbeespoort Dam
Police have opened an inquest docket following the discovery of an adult males body in the Hartbeespoort Dam, north of Johannesburg, today. The man had been reported missing while fishing in the Hyacinth area yesterday.
An extensive search operation was launched by the National Sea Rescue Institute NSRI and police divers. The NSRIs rescue craft, Sea Legs, along with rescue swimmers and the SA Police Services, responded to the scene.
Despite efforts, no signs of the man were found, and the Police Water Policing and Diving Services WPDS were activated to assist in the ongoing search.
NSRI Spokesperson Craig Lambinon confirmed that the body of the man, believed to be from Malawi, was recovered from the dam and taken into the care of police and government health forensic pathology services.
