Police Officer Accused Of Theft Granted Bail
A police officer has been granted R4,000 bail by the East London Magistrates Court in the Eastern Cape.
Patricia August is accused of the theft of more than R1 million from the Crime Intelligence Offices in the city and obstructing justice.
The state says August staged a robbery scene after a man allegedly gained access to her office, pulled out a firearm and demanded money.
August allegedly complied and the man left with the cash.
"The police captain, Ntombekhaya Patricia August, who is charged in relation to the daring robbery at the East London Crime Intelligence Offices has been granted a R4,000 bail by the East London Magistrate's Court. She is expected to appear in court again on the 4 th of March 2025 for further investigations," says National Prosecuting Authority Regional Spokesperson Luxolo Tyali.
