A man has died after he was found lying on a sidewalk in Florida City Thursday morning with a gunshot wound to the chest, authorities confirmed to Local 10 News.
According to Florida City police Sgt. David Hunsberger, officers responded to the area of Palm Drive and U.S. 1 just after 740 a.m. after receiving a gunshot detection alert.

He said officers then found the victim lying on the sidewalk near a Days Inn. Hunsberger confirmed, however, that the shooting did not occur on the motel's property, but on the roadway of Palm Drive, just east of U.S. 1.
According to Hunsberger, the victim was airlifted by Miami-Dade Fire Rescue to Jackson South Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
