While South Africans celebrated the Springboks epic victory against the All Blacks at DHL Stadium on Saturday, police were cracking down on counterfeit products, seizing merchandise worth more than R200 000 in Green Point, Cape {town} Etc reports.

Continued efforts to combat the unlawful trade of counterfeit products were rewarded when fake clothing was discovered during a joint operation near a well-known sports stadium.

The operation, which involved SAPS members, law enforcement and brand defenders from several popular high-end brands, began with compliance inspections at stadium stands.

During the operation, members confiscated a variety of counterfeit goods, including imitations of well-known sports brands, resulting in fines for illegal informal dealing without a valid permit.

Lt General Thembisile Patekile, the Provincial Commissioner of the Western Cape Police, referred to the trafficking of counterfeit goods as economic sabotage and expressed gratitude for the successful removal of phoney products from the provinces streets.
