Detectives are searching for a shooter on Sunday while a family is grieving the death of a 9-year-old boy who was wounded in Florida City and later died in the hospital, police said.

According to Detective Andre D. Martin, a spokesman for the Miami-Dade Police Department, police officers with the Florida City Police Department responded to the shooting shortly after 935 p.m., along West Lucy Street, near Northwest Eighth Avenue.
"Officers immediately began rendering aid until emergency medical personnel arrived," Martin wrote.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue personnel used a helicopter to rush the boy to HCA Kendall Hospital where the medical staff pronounced him dead, according to Martin.
