The original clip, captioned slavery at school is crazy featured black students enclosed in a cage, while other students appeared to be making bids on them. The video stirred an uproar and the guilty students have now been sanctioned, Cape {town} Etc reports.

After the video began circulating on social media, the students involved were suspended.

IOL has reported that the disciplinary procedures were followed as prescribed and as such, sanctions of a restorative nature were have been communicated to parents and children involved. The sanctions include participation in various workshops and community service.

The Western Cape department of education reiterated that these sanctions are designed to aid learners in gaining a deeper understanding of the gravity of the situation and the full consequences of such actions. Times Live reports that the pupils, the victims and relevant parents were in support of the sanctions implemented.

Though the incident occurred July, a total of five learners have been sanctioned as of Monday, following the disciplinary procedures undergone in the school.
