Pieter-Steph du Toit, a Springbok flanker, made history as the first South African to be named World Rugbys Mens 15s Player of the Year for a second time. The 32-year-old also won the award in 2019. This year, he was nominated alongside teammates Cheslin Kolbe, Eben Etzebeth, and Irelands Caelan Doris. Du Toit was also one of seven Springboks included in the World Rugby Mens 15s Dream Team for 2024 at the awards in Monaco.

SA Rugby President, Mark Alexander, praised all the players for their achievements, noting their 84.6 record this year after winning the Rugby Championship, the Nelson Mandela Challenge Plate, the Freedom Cup, and the Prince William Cup. Besides Du Toit, only Schalk Burger 2004 and Bryan Habana 2007 have received the top honors from South Africa.
