Rugby legend Percy Montgomery is set to take on a new challenge as he joins the IRONMAN 4 the Kidz Charity Trust for its 20th anniversary event in Nelson Mandela Bay on 30 March 2025 Cape town Etc reports.

The former Springbok fullback will participate in the 3.5km swim as part of the fundraising initiative that has raised over R34.5 million for children's charities across South Africa.

The IRONMAN 4 the Kidz Charity Trust was founded in 2005 by ex-Springbok Garth Wright and Gary Stephenson, who saw an opportunity to raise funds for children in need by competing in the first full IRONMAN South Africa. What started as a single race-driven initiative has since grown into a long-term charity, supporting 22 children's organisations across the country.

Despite the physical demands of an IRONMAN event, the charity's mission has always been the driving force. 'Raising funds for the children is a great motivator,' says Stephenson, echoing the sentiments of the many athletes who take on the challenge each year. The organisation continues to thrive with the support of sponsors, athletes, and the public, proving that 'anything is possible.'

With the milestone anniversary event approaching, Montgomery's participation adds an extra layer of excitement. Known for his endurance on the rugby field, the World Cup-winning Springbok will now test himself in open water to contribute to a cause that has changed countless lives.
