Payment Of Whistleblowers In Spotlight At G20 Anti-corruption Meeting
Special Investigating Unit SIU Head, Adv. Andy Mothibi, says the remuneration of whistleblowers has been discussed at the G20 Anti-Corruption Work Group Technical Meeting.
The gathering was held in Somerset West in the Western Cape.
While South Africa has policies protecting whistleblowers and witnesses, legislation will be introduced to Parliament later this year, beefing up whistleblower protection.
Mothibi says discussions held by the G20 member nations could be considered in the drafting of the new legislation
He says, "Some of the other considerations as we do the benchmarks across the world is whether are we not at the stage where we should consider some form of financial incentive to the witnesses, the whistleblowers. This is also part of the process that is underway and as the Minister says it will culminate in a Bill."
