Paul Mashatile Has Not Briefed Anc About Motorcade Shooting: Fikile Mbalula

African National Congress ANC Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula says Deputy President Paul Mashatile has not yet briefed the party about his motorcades shooting.
The shooting happened on 30 March along the N12 as Mashatile was being driven from an ANC National Executive Committee NEC meeting in Boksburg, Gauteng. However, reports on it only emerged over the weekend.
Mashatile did not inform ANC of convoy shooting: MbalulaSpeaking to the media on Wednesday 23 April, Mbalula said the ANC only knew about the incident after media reports on Sunday.
We were taken aback about these reports because neither the Deputy President nor anyone in government informed the ANC about this situation. We are very much concerned, he said.
He added that the ANC contacted Police Minister Senzo Mchunu, who said National Police Commissioner General Fannie Masemola was seized with it.
Mbalula urged ANC members and leaders to wait for matters to be processed because of risks associated with fake news and agent provocateurs.
We want to say to all our members, leave matters in the hands of the police and then the organisation will communicate at an appropriate time once we are furnished with all the facts, he added.
The reality of the matter is that the organisation has not been briefed, including by its Deputy President, about this matter. We will await that moment up until we are briefed, but we remain concerned.
Speaking on Tuesday, ANC Treasurer-General, Dr Gwen Ramokgopa, similarly cautioned against speculation that the shooting may be linked to the partys 2027 national conference.
Where I stand, I have no reason to believe that it could be linked to 2027 at all, she said.
